Subaru Performance Parts and Upgrades Guide: Boost the Power of Your Vehicle

· Automotive,Subaru Parts

Just like most Japanese manufacturer's nowadays, Subaru also has a division of sports vehicles alongside their crossovers and hatchbacks. The brand itself is positioned more toward performance when it comes to the way its vehicles drive but Subaru is also known for its unique boxer engine. This type of engine makes for a balance in power and efficiency.

Because of this type of engine, a Subaru has a more comfortable and smoother driving experience. You also get 4-wheel drive as standard when you go for a Subaru and all kinds of safety systems made by the manufacturer itself. But when you want to get more from your Subaru there are certain performance upgrades to consider.

Performance Parts to Upgrade

ECU

If you don't want to do any heavy modifications to your Subaru's under-body or engine bay, go for an ECU remap instead. The ECU (electronic control unit) is what controls everything in your car, from fuel economy, performance, and dashboard controls. Not many Subaru parts found online are praised as much as an ECU remapping since a remap essential rewrites the ECU's software. This way you can make it behave in a way so that it favours different types of fuels as well as temperatures. You can change the way your Subaru acts in all kinds of scenarios.

Brakes

When it comes to better performance, engine components are not the only ones being upgraded. The brakes of your Subaru will also need an upgrade in order to ensure that you can stop in a timely manner with all that power pushing your vehicle. Bigger brakes and bigger brake lines will introduce greater stopping power, especially if you go for ceramic brake pads. These are not as easy to overheat as they help dissipate high amounts of heat easily.

Fuel Injector

A new set of fuel injectors will help make your Subaru not only more fuel-efficient but also more powerful. An important factor with these Subaru parts available online is their size. While bigger and more powerful engines will require bigger injectors, a bigger injector is not always a great idea. The injectors you go for should match the capabilities of your engine. While bigger injectors will use more fuel and thus flood the engine, smaller ones will struggle to supply it with fuel.

Tyres

The type of tyres you have on your Subaru will tell you a lot about how well you'll go into corners and how fast you'll be able to accelerate. With the right type of tread and enough of it, you will have good traction and thus good control over your Subaru. But remember too much tread is actually bad for the track. A more low-profile tread pattern is a better option.

Pistons

What constantly moves up and down to keep your Subaru running and help you achieve high speeds are the pistons. These Subaru performance parts are replaceable even if you're not experiencing any issue with any of them. When looking for the right type of pistons you need to know for what type of engine you're going.

If you need less compression then go for pistons with a larger surface area. These are usually dome pistons that have a slight dome-like shape at the top. But if you want a higher compression ratio in your engine then go for flat-top pistons. These have the smallest surface area and thus produce the highest compression.

Connecting Rods

What helps the pistons move up and down and actually holds the pistons in place are connecting rods. Also known as conrods, these metal Subaru custom parts can also be upgraded. There are three types of conrods, H, I, and X-beam.

An H-beam conrod is great if your Subaru comes with an engine that has a lot of HP generated at low speeds. These are usually engines that have a compressor or a turbocharger. H-beam connecting rods are the best when it comes to withstanding the pressure in high compression applications.

I-beam conrods are the most commonly used connecting rods as they are affordable and can withstand quite a bit of pressure. But they're nothing like H-beam conrods, since I-beam conrods are heavier and can't keep up with high compression ratios.

X-beam conrods are the best solution if you want your engine to stay intact even when working under high pressure. X-beam conrods are considered to be a hybrid version between I and H-beam conrods. X-beam conrods are light but also crack-resistant, meaning they can easily withstand high-pressure levels.

Exhaust

When replacing the exhaust of your Subaru you have many options to choose from. You can go with an exhaust upgrade that takes very little time and effort to install or one that involves doing an overhaul of the entire exhaust system. There are 3 types of exhaust upgrades cat-back, header-back, and axle-back.

An axle-back upgrade involves replacing all the Subaru performance parts coming from the rear axle and back to the exhaust tip. This is the most affordable exhaust upgrade and it involves the least amount of time to install.

A header-back upgrade is the most extensive since it replaces all the components of your exhaust. You're essentially getting a new exhaust system, which means you can make this upgrade with Subaru custom parts.

A cat-back upgrade is a middle-ground exhaust upgrade that replaces components starting from the catalytic converter back to the exhaust tip. This way you get a more substantial difference than what you would from an axle-back upgrade. But you don't get to spend as much time installing it as you would with a header-back upgrade.
